Our Incredible Journey
Our Work
Regular Food Seva has formed part of our service offering for many years, after all Shirdi Sai Baba said “Feed the Hungry, Serve the Poor”
Throughout the year through the kind generosity of our supporters we donate ambient (non-perishable) food and non-food items to Food Banks across Leicestershire helping those in need with support during particularly challenging and difficult times.
We will update this space with the next food seva dates. If you would like to support our food seva and volunteer with us please email info@saisevatrust.co.uk
Our Journey 2019
Our journey started in 2019 when a small group of Shirdi Sai Baba’s devotees came together to spread the message of humanity, love, compassion, and seva (selfless service); the core teachings of Shirdi Sai Baba.
As a Community group, we called ourselves ‘Team Sai Shraddha Saburi’, drawing inspiration from Baba’s teachings of Shraddha (Faith) and Saburi (Patience).
That year, we held 4 Bhajan Sandhyas in Baba’s name in Leicester. We also commenced Food Seva (service), supporting local food banks to support those in need.
Our Journey 2020
In 2020, the world was hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. These were unprecedented times. On the first day of the lockdown in the UK, 23rd March 2020, by the grace and blessings of Baba, we commenced a tiffin service offering hot food to vulnerable people in Leicester. Over a period of 14 weeks, a total of 9,000 tiffins were delivered, supported by a team of around 40 volunteers.
Leicestershire Cares, Leicester City Council and Voluntary Community Events recognised us for our work.
Our Journey 2021
After the lockdown ended, we continued our food seva for local food banks, which continues to this day.
Our Journey 2022
In 2022, our work brought us to Shirdi, the holy abode and resting place of Baba, one of India’s significant pilgrimage sites.
We developed a partnership with a school in Shirdi for children with severe learning disabilities and those with mental health issues and challenges.
We continue to support the school through various activities and resources.
Our Journey 2023
2023 was the year we became a registered charity with the Charity Commission. We decided to rename the charity, Sai Seva Trust, to encompass selfless service to those in need in Shirdi Sai Baba’s name.
Our three pillars of work are:
• Relief of Poverty
• Increase knowledge and education around social and health issues
• Focus on the teachings of Shirdi Sai Baba based on humanity
Our Journey 2024
In March 2024, we launched our Children’s Club, the ‘Sai Seva Kids Club’. This fortnightly club is for children aged 4 to 11, and the learning focuses on humanity, values, festivals, and having fun!
